At HCA HealthONE Swedish, exceptional care is often defined by the moments when a nurse brings calm, confidence and compassion to those around them. For Justine Cox, RN, those moments are part of the way she shows up every day.
Justine was recently nominated for the DAISY Award by her colleague, Michel Mays, who shared how Justine’s leadership and kindness have made a meaningful impact on both patients and teammates.
Michel recalled being new to the team and making mistakes. Rather than criticize, Justine took the time to speak with her directly, offer encouragement and share practical tips to help her grow. That moment stood out as an example of Justine’s character and her commitment to supporting those around her.
“I truly appreciated that and it showed me that she was different than others,” Michel wrote in the nomination.
Justine’s clinical skill and steady presence were also highlighted in a moment involving a younger patient who came in with a nosebleed. Michel described how Justine entered the room with poise, quickly called a rapid response, contacted physicians and helped direct the team through the situation. Even in a high-pressure moment, Justine spoke to the patient with warmth and reassurance.
Her nomination also praised the way she advocates for her patients and supports her colleagues. Michel shared that Justine has stepped in during difficult interactions, defended teammates when needed and consistently goes above and beyond to provide thoughtful, clustered care for patients.
“I love working with her when I know she’s on my team,” Michel wrote. “She’s an advocate for her patients, she’s an RN who is very knowledgeable about her work and if I was a patient in the hospital I would want her as my nurse.”
Justine’s nomination is a meaningful reminder of the difference nurses make not only through clinical excellence, but through mentorship, advocacy and compassion. Her ability to lead with strength while caring with gentleness reflects the best of nursing at HCA HealthONE Swedish.
Congratulations, Justine, and thank you for the care, leadership and kindness you bring to our patients and team.
