Mandy’s attendance at our birth was invaluable. As a first time mother, I wasn’t exactly sure what I would need or want in terms of support during labor but I was encouraged by friends to hire a doula. I initially wanted to try an unmedicated labor so when I ended up needing an epidural, I thought perhaps the doula wouldn’t be much help after all. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Mandy’s arrival at the hospital entirely shifted my mood and experience. She expertly used different techniques like massage and acupressure, but more than anything her calming presence and reassurance put me at ease. Despite the change of birth plans mid-journey, I feel generally positive about my first birth experience and I owe that in large part to Mandy’s accompaniment.
