Spinal disc treatment
Your spine is comprised of 33 vertebrae separated by discs. These discs can be damaged through trauma, disease or degeneration over time, which may cause pain and a lack of mobility. We offer both traditional and modern treatments to treat these and other spinal disc conditions.
Using minimally invasive surgical technology, we perform procedures to replace a spinal disc with an artificial one. Through disc replacement surgery, we can preserve, and in some cases, even enhance motion in the lumbar portion of the spine.
- Spine revision surgery — Spine revision surgery may be needed when, for a variety of reasons, a previous procedure starts to cause severe back pain or other symptoms. Our spine care specialists can help with this, performing minimally invasive procedures to restore your spine's function and your physical mobility.
- Spine tumor treatment — In conjunction with our cancer care program, our spine doctors diagnose and treat spine tumors. Our staff is able to detect whether the abnormal cells are benign (noncancerous and not invading nearby tissue) or malignant (cancerous and possibly spreading to other parts of the body).
Spine tumors can press on nerves and blood vessels, potentially causing pain and reducing blood supply. These tumors may occur in the bones of the spine, within nerve tissue or within soft tissue around the spine.
Minimally invasive spine surgery
Our spine surgeons stay at the forefront of surgical technology and use new techniques to provide you with the best outcomes possible. A key example of this is our use of minimally invasive robotic surgical technology for spine treatments.
Your doctor uses this advanced surgical platform to create a 3D model of your spinal cord that can be viewed from multiple angles. The technology helps the surgeon better assess your anatomy, determine the most appropriate spinal implants and develop a personalized care plan designed for your unique anatomy.
Benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery
Minimally invasive spine surgery offers many advantages when compared to traditional spine surgery, including:
- Less pain
- More precise placement of instrumentation via image guidance
- Shorter hospital stay
- Quicker return to normal activities
