Stroke Telemedicine: Accessing the Highest Level Care in your Community
The telemedicine program, called CO-DOC, is a collaboration of HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center, Colorado Neurological Institute (CNI) and Blue Sky Neurology. It brings the best — and most successful — stroke care to communities that need 24/7 acute stroke neurology coverage.
When a patient arrives at a medical facility that has a telemedicine camera and monitoring equipment, physicians at that site can immediately reach a HealthONE Stroke Neurologist.
The patient can see the Stroke Neurologist on a monitor — and the Stroke Neurologist can evaluate the patient, as well as instantly view the patient’s vital signs and monitoring information to make a rapid diagnosis.
HealthONE Stroke Experts and ER physicians work together to treat the patient. The telemedicine program has served more than 800 patients from outside the metro Denver area in the first four years. These are people who would otherwise not have essential access to stroke and neurology specialists. Today, HealthONE continues to expand telemedicine sites into other areas of the Rocky Mountain region.
