Accessing the Most Successful
Stroke Care from Your Community

Our renown stroke network — led by Swedish Medical Center — is the most experienced and extensive in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Stroke neurologists provide immediate care to patients in remote locations through a network of more than 15 telemedicine cameras across Colorado. HealthONE Stroke Care is the Rocky Mountain region's only network offering 24/7 board certified neurologists for immediate evaluation.

We also offer 24/7 board certified interventional neuroradiology services with three (3) board certified neuroradiologists, plus the region's most experienced support team.

We also have five (5) dedicated neuro-hospitalists, four (4) neurovascular surgeons, the first Stroke Certified Air Transport Teams as part of AIRLIFE-Denver; and two Joint Commission-accredited Primary Stroke Centers at Swedish (in 2011 received 4th consecutive certification) and The Medical Center of Aurora. All this adds up to faster, better care and improved patient outcomes.

Stroke symptoms differ depending on which area of the brain is affected. There are 3 different mechanisms for strokes. In a thrombotic stroke, a blood clot forms at a narrowed or damaged area in an artery to the brain. In an embolic stroke, a blood clot in another part of the body breaks loose, travels through the body, and becomes stuck in an artery to the brain. In a hemorrhagic stroke, an artery ruptures, and blood leaks out into the brain, which prevents blood from getting to the brain tissue in the surrounding area. Hemorrhagic strokes usually occur in those with high blood pressure.
