What Does This Measure?

The percentage of eligible heart attack patients who received percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) within 90 minutes of their arrival at the hospital. The term PCI can refer to cardiac catheterization, angioplasty or stenting.

Why Is This Important?

When an artery is blocked, to slows down the blood supply to the heart. This can cause permanent damage to the heart. PCI procedures open the clogged artery and help prevent further damage to the heart. They also can increase the patient’s change of surviving a heart attack.The quicker PCI is performed, the more effective it is in improving a patient’s outcome.
