Osteoarthritis of the Hip

The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint. This type of joint with a ball-shaped bone fitting into a cup-like socket, permits the leg to move in a full circle, or 360 degrees. Smooth cartilage covers the surface of the bones, to protect them, reduce friction and ease movement. Osteoarthritis of the hip occurs when wear and tear on the joint causes this smooth cartilage to wear away. These changes can cause pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving and limit the leg’s range of motion. Click on the video to learn more.
