Screening and Prevention

As heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, prevention is key. With access to advanced screening tests, you can identify risks and catch problems in their early stages. Our cardiologists perform thousands of diagnostic heart tests each year. To learn more about your risk for heart disease, access HealthONE’s free online risk assessment tool.

Who should be screened for heart disease?

Genetics and lifestyle choices can both play roles in heart disease risk. Education is the best method for prevention. People with a family history of heart disease or those who have undefined deaths in the family should be screened and educated on their heart health.

Fast Response for Better Outcomes

Our CardiacAlertTM program arms local emergency medical services with the tools they need to inform HealthONE emergency departments when heart attack victims are en route. This protocol ensures a smooth continuum of care with staff and physicians prepared to take over treatment as soon as patients arrive.

In addition, six of HealthONE’s facilities are members of our Chest Pain network. These medical centers have all received chest pain accreditation, a distinction that helps you rest assured that HealthONE systematically reduces the time between chest pain recognition and treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack

How the Heart Works

The heart is a muscle about the size of your fist. It lies behind and to the left of your breastbone, or sternum. The purpose of the heart is to pump blood through blood vessels, arteries, and veins to all parts of your body. Click on the video to see how it works.
