Integrated healthcare systems, like HCA and HealthONE, have greater access to best demonstrated clinical practices because there are more places to try and learn new processes or technologies – all this enables our hospitals and outpatient centers to deliver top quality care and improve patient outcomes.

HealthONE: Where patients heal
and people thrive.

HCA and HealthONE are leaders in implementing programs, technologies and new processes medically proven to improve quality care. Achieving high levels of patient safety, patient satisfaction and clinical quality are our central goals. To achieve these goals, we have implemented a number of initiatives – many the first in our region – including infection reduction initiatives; eMAR, the electronic bar-coding system for reducing medication errors; perinatal safety programs and processes to ensure high-quality care of our smallest patients, and continue to implement many others proven to save lives and raise the quality of patient care.

  • The most recent CORE Measures data posted by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows EVERY HealthONE acute care hospital ranks higher than our metro Denver and Colorado Springs area counterparts in “Overall Recommended Care” and in “Overall Surgical Care.”
  • Our hospitals seek to attain specialty accreditations by national medical organizations and third parties, which substantiate our investments in advanced staff training, proven processes and technologies, to raise the level of care.
  • Among the biggest advantages of being part of a large system is our ability to analyze operational practices from our best-performing hospitals to identify ways to implement performance improvements and reduce clinical variation. We believe these initiatives will continue to improve patient care.

HealthONE believes patients do better when they can be closer to home and the people who care most about them. That’s why we invest in more than 500 flights a year to send physicians to more than 100 underserved communities to care for patients in their local clinics and hospitals – saving them long trips for routine care or check-ups. Our physicians and nurses also travel to provide more than 120 educational sessions per year for medical staff in rural areas to better meet their needs.

HealthONE was first in the state to build free-standing ERs in suburban communities and has the largest network of Ambulatory Surgical Centers and Outpatient Imaging Centers across the metro area – making it more convenient for patients to access healthcare closer to home.

HealthONE affiliated or employed pediatric and adult specialists have provided clinics in Colorado Springs for many years for patients who need access to specialty care. There are many opportunities to enhance services for the people of Colorado Springs and El Paso County – as well as the surrounding region – and we believe Memorial would be an ideal partner to meet these needs.

Smart and progressive healthcare professionals continually monitor and review the needs of their communities and remain flexible to those evolving healthcare changes. That’s why we plan to open a new inpatient psychiatric unit in late 2012 in the metro Denver area.

Compared to Memorial’s capital re-investment, over the last two years, HealthONE has re-invested three-times the rate of Memorial.

  • HCA-HealthONE invested 147% of depreciation
  • Memorial invested 43% of depreciation

Since the HCA-HealthONE system formed in 1995, we have invested more than $1.5 billion in improvements to our hospitals, clinics and services. We opened Sky Ridge Medical Center in 2003, the first hospital to serve Douglas County. We plan to continue making smart investments for the benefit of our patients, physicians and employees (more than $130 million in 2011) – while also continuing our leadership in clinical programs.

Investing in our hospitals, clinics, services and communities is a hallmark of HCA as well. HCA’s annual capital investment is about $1.5 billion across the company. Making sure facilities are kept up to date physically advanced and have leading-edge technology is very important to HCA. It’s also important to continually assess the community’s needs and modify the services we provide appropriately. All of these are critical capital investment decisions that HCA takes very seriously.
