Medical Education
History of Support
HealthONE has a long history of supporting Graduate Medical Education and other Physician Training Programs, both in conjunction with state medical schools and private hospitals.
Training Physicians
In Colorado, HealthONE has invested more than $50 million (unreimbursed) during the past 15 years in Graduate Medical Education and physician residencies and internships at Swedish, Presbyterian/St. Luke’s, Rose, The Medical Center of Aurora and Sky Ridge. From 1996 through 2010, these programs have supported training of more than 1,300 physicians or more than 90 per year:- Rose: 690 MDs in internal medicine; pulmonary & critical care; OB/GYN; and surgery, and more than 150 in family medicine since 1996. Rose operates a transitional medicine internship, and an internal medicine and family medicine residency clinic for patients. Swedish: 80 MDs in family medicine, plus a few in emergency medicine (trauma) and rehabilitation. Swedish operates a family medicine residency clinic as well.
- P/SL: 370 MDs in internal medicine, gynecology, podiatry, radiology, radiation oncology, orthopedics and other specialties
- Aurora: 5 MDs in pharmacy
- Sky Ridge: 83 Rocky Vista Osteopathic Students for rotations in medicine, anesthesiology, pediatrics, surgery, neurology, cardiology, otolaryngology and OB/GYN; about 100 students from Universities around the country for short rotations in pediatrics, surgery, OB/GYN, otolaryngology, orthopedics, anesthesiology, radiology, trauma surgery, emergency medicine, CV surgery and medicine
