Diagnosing Lymphoma (Non-Hodgkins)

Your doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history and perform a physical exam. In particular, your doctor will carefully examine your lymph nodes. Most of the time, enlarged or swollen lymph nodes are due to infection, not lymphomas. If infection is suspected, you may be given medication and told to return for re-examination. Your doctor will recommend a treatment plan for your specific needs. In general, treatment options depend on the stage of lymphoma, where it is located, symptoms, your age, and whether or not you have other medical conditions. The doctor may recommend delaying treatment until the disease progresses to the point where symptoms occur. The goal of treatment is to kill the cancer cells.
