Colon Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Colon Cancer Diagnosis
Colorectal cancer — most people refer to it as "colon cancer" — can often be prevented through screening. Don't wait for symptoms before you screen for colon cancer. Symptoms may not appear until the disease is more serious. Proactively seek screening starting at age 50, earlier if you have a family history of this disease or if you have having any symptoms.
Your doctor will first review your medical history, including whether you are having colon cancer symptoms. A complete medical exam will be done. One or more of the following colon cancer screening tests may be done:
- Digital Rectal Exam
- Fecal Occult Blood Test
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Barium Enema
- Virtual Colonscopy
