  • Cervical, thoracic and lumbar fractures
  • Disc injury requiring spinal fusions
  • Fractures requiring Kyphoplasty
  • Spinal tumors
  • Traumatic spinal and spinal cord injuries

A number of HealthONE facilities, including our Spine Centers at The Medical Center of Aurora, Rose Medical Center, Sky Ridge Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center, have been named centers of distinction by Blue Cross Blue Shield, United HealthCare, Cigna or Aetna for their commitment to excellence and quality. In addition, Rose Medical Center and Sky Ridge Medical Center have earned the “gold seal” of approval from The Joint Commission. And, Sky Ridge Medical Center was named by Becker’s Health Review as one of the top 101 hospitals in the country for its spine program.

HealthONE has launched new techniques, offering you more choices in your healthcare options. For instance, minimally invasive spine surgery techniques pioneered by surgeons at The Medical Center of Aurora and implemented at each of our hospitals, achieve the same surgical goals as open surgery, but with smaller incisions and greater tissue preservation. In addition, surgeons at North Suburban’s Musculoskeletal Surgery Center were the first in Colorado to perform the most technologically advanced spinal disc replacement surgery for patients with severe, disabling back pain.[S1]

In addition to traditional and minimally invasive spine surgery, the neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons at HealthONE have perfected:

  • Revision surgery to relieve problems caused by previous surgeries.
  • Spinal navigation, a surgical technique performed by highly trained neurosurgeons that uses leading technology to provide a continuous 3-D picture of the precise surgical site.

Anatomy of the Spine

The back is an intricate structure of bones, muscles, and other tissues that forms the posterior part of the body’s trunk, from the neck to the hipbones and pelvis. The bones that form the core of the back structure are called the spine or spinal column. This stack of more than 30 bones, vertebrae, supports the upper body’s weight and houses the spinal cord. Each of the bones that make up the spinal column has a hole in the center, and when these bones are stacked, it creates a channel that surrounds and protects the spinal cord.
