Diagnosing and Treating Allergies

Over 50 million Americans are affected by allergic conditions.  To determine what allergen is causing you to have an allergic reaction, your doctor will discuss your symptoms.  HealthONE doctors specialize in diagnosing and treating allergies and immune disorders to keep you feeling your best.

Diagnosing Allergies

To diagnose your allergy, your doctor may ask you about your medical history and do diagnostic allergy testing to narrow down the allergen causing your reaction.  These tests include:

Treating Allergies

The most effective way to treat allergies is to avoid the allergen. Since this can sometimes be difficult or impossible, other treatments are available, including:

  • Medications (antihistamines, decongestants, mast cell inhibitors, topical corticosteroids)
  • Immunotherapy (allergy shots)
